Best Tips for Buying Tilapia

Before you whip up your favorite tilapia recipe, it's wise to arm yourself with best buying practices to ensure you are selecting the best options. Purchasing wild-caught tilapia is ideal, although sometimes a bit more challenging to find. If you choose to purchase farmed tilapia, know where you are buying your fish from. Due to farming practice concerns, we highly recommend selecting your fish from reputable companies in the United States or one of four other countries known for their ethical farming practices or high standards for outsourcing safe and ethically farmed tilapia, such as ours.

Best Tilapia Seasoning

Tilapia's mild and slightly sweet flavor allows you the opportunity to explore your favorite herbs and spices. If you enjoy a light, traditional flavor, a lemon garlic butter blend is always a tastebud-pleasing tilapia seasoning. We enjoy adding bay leaves to bring out the delicious flavor and aroma tilapia offers. Be mindful of how long you allow your leaves to simmer with your tilapia recipe, as they become much stronger the longer they cook.

We highly recommend adding bold spices to your tilapia seasoning. Cayenne pepper, chile powder, and curry powders make excellent tilapia seasonings and enhance your dish's flavor. Don't be afraid to experiment with these spicy options, as they're the perfect pairings for your fish.
